I am a born and raised Texan. Teaching has been my passion from childhood. I would gather the neighborhood kids for bike safety classes with my chalkboard in the yard conducting written and demonstration tests. My 3rd grade teacher was my inspiration to pursue a career in education. She developed a total curriculum project based learning before it was “cool.” Her students thrived on her love, enthusiasm, and dedication to creative instruction.
In high school, I discovered Family and Consumer Sciences. I learned that all subjects could be tied into life skills and career development. I joined our local FCCLA Chapter, where I gained confidence, leadership skills and career preparation serving as a Texas FCCLA officer. I was given so many opportunities to travel, meet people from all over the world, and gain a heart for volunteering and serving others.
I attended Texas Woman’s University and graduated in 2007 with a BS in Family and Consumer Science education. My husband, Travis and I are married and we have 4 boys. We wanted a hands-on education for our boys and were homeschooled for many years. Meanwhile, I also worked part time in our church, serving as a Minister to Families and Young Children. We moved to Montana in 2017 and started our journey as members of the Power community. While our boys attended Power School I took on a substitute teacher role to stay involved in my boys education.
I officially joined the Power School staff as the Family and Consumer Science Teacher and FCCLA adviser in 2021 and haven’t looked back. I love our school, my students and the community. I am honored to be a Pirate, to teach alongside amazing teachers, and work with the future leaders of the world.
