USDA Food & Nutrition Visit
"Power School District is a small school district making a big impact on both student nutrition and the community.
Nutrition service staff are modeling successful farm to school activities, scratch cooking, and community
engagement, making PSD a small but mighty leader in the state.
Chris Emerson, Director of School Nutrition Programs with Montana Office of Public Instruction, USDA Food and
Nutrition Service Acting Regional Administrator Dana Platin and Public Affairs Specialist Jan Rhodes, will travel to
Power, Montana, to celebrate National School Lunch Week and highlight Power School District as a Healthy Meals
Incentive Initiative grantee and HMI Recognition Award Winner. The visit also recognizes October as National Farm
to School Month.
On Wednesday, October 16, the group will visit Power School District located at 402 Teton Ave. in Power, Montana.
The group will visit with Laura Toeckes, Nutrition Services Director, and staff; Superintendent Nichole Pieper;
Montana Teacher of the Year Dawn Sievers; students and teachers; as well as local farmers, Mark Jensen, Bill
Burguess, Keith Smelser, and Ryan Pfeifle. The group will discuss National School Lunch Week and Farm to School as
well as serve lunch, eat with students, and tour the school for participation in a variety of activities. USDA FNS will
highlight PSD through their social media and web publications. Press visits are possible."
