GO GO for the Gold in Grains Day - Farm to School Day
If you look at our menu for the month of September, you will see we are “Going for the Gold in Grains”. Power Public Schools had agreed to be a pilot school for the Montana Partnership to End Childhood Hunger’s GO GO – Go for the Gold in Grains. We have selected the 27th of September as our date to highlight grains in our menu. We are also combining this date with our Harvest of the Month – of Grains. We are still in the planning stages, but we are hoping some or most of the following activities will be available for Power’s Students.
-
cleaning grain
-
have harvesting and seeding equipment at or near the school
-
the opportunity to hand thrash grain
-
grinding grain into flour, and corn into meal which we will use at the school
-
discussions with farmers about the different types of grains grown in our area.
-
discussions with elevator staff about their role in buying and selling grain for use in the United States and exporting it.
